What's so bad about plastic toothbrushes?

Plastic toothbrushes are made with nylon bristles and of course a plastic handle. Both plastic and nylon are derived from petroleum and contain BPA, phthalates, PFAS and many other carcinogenic and hormone disrupting compounds. As you brush your teeth with these nylon bristles - microplastic fragments are broken off, absorbed, and swallowed. In result, you are unknowingly dosed with said toxic compounds daily. This is in addition to the fact that nylon bristles are much coarser than boar bristles and can cause enamel damage and a receding gum-line.

Not to mention, the massive environmental damage that plastic toothbrush production and waste impose. Every year, 1 billion plastic toothbrushes are disposed of in the US alone, leading to over 50 million pounds of plastic waste. Since plastic takes hundreds of years to decompose, this leads to irreversible damage to our ecosystems.

What's different about ours?

While other "bamboo toothbrushes" on the market claim to be clean or eco-friendly simply because they have a bamboo handle - that only solves half the problem since they still contain nylon bristles. Those nylon bristles are derived from petroleum and are harmful not only to the environment but to your systemic health due to their cancer causing and hormone disrupting properties.

In addition, one of the main problems with other bamboo toothbrushes is that they do not dry properly which leads to molding. However that is not an issue whatsoever with our PRIMALS Boar Bristle Toothbrushes. Since our toothbrush is designed to stand on its own, and is sealed on the bottom with a non-toxic paint - it drys quickly and efficiently so it lasts longer than any other toothbrush on the market.

How long does it last?

Our PRIMALS Boar Bristle Toothbrush lasts longer than any other toothbrush on the market.

While plastic toothbrush bristles fray out over time, making them unsafe to use due to microplastic fragmentation which puts you at risk for the host of chemicals in nylon bristles - our PRIMALS Boar Bristle Toothbrushes do not have this issue as we use 100% natural bristles.

Not to mention, due to the free-standing design of our bamboo handles and the non-toxic paint seal on the bottom of our toothbrushes - our toothbrushes dry quickly & effectively after each use - making them last longer than any other bamboo toothbrush on the market.

Some tips to note!

Some extra tips to note:

  • Since our toothbrushes are glue free, all of the boar bristles are woven into small holes in the brush head. So in your first few uses of the brush, a few bristles may naturally shed as your brush is acclimating to your local temperature and humidity since bamboo expands in humid air and can then contract when it gets dry. Do not buy if you are not fine with removing a few bristles from your mouth that may shed in your first few uses. However, if you can stay the sustainable, toxin-free course and keep brushing - your brush will find a balance within the first few uses and you can brush away as vigorously as you like!
  • Use the free-standing handle to stand the toothbrush up after each use for optimal drying to maximize life span of each toothbrush
  • To make the bristles even softer, simply run it under warm water before use
  • If you notice the brush bristles are being flattened - you are likely brushing with too much force. Apply slightly less force and brush in circular motions for optimal teeth cleaning and brush usage
